Canned Apple Pie Filling

Today, I went to Kristen's and we did all sorts of projects. The first one was canned apple pie filling. :) I even got my own little ball kit that came with a jar lifter, funnel, lid lifter, and air bubble remover. Thanks Kristen! :)

Kristen put the clean ball jars in her big pot to keep them warm. Otherwise, hot filling in a room temp jar could crack it. We don't want that.

We each peeled, and cut up 5 big Jonagold apples.

Once the apples were cut up Kristen added them to the ball jars. We had 7 jars.

4 1/2 cups white sugar
1 cup cornstarch
2 tsp. ground cinnamon
1/4 tsp. ground nutmeg
2 tsp. salt
10 cups water

Mix the dry ingredients in a bowl. Put water and salt in a pot. Add mix and stir till thick. Once the sauce mix is done you ladle the sauce in the jars. (funnel on top of jar)

Put on the lids and the jars go back in the pot. Add more water to cover and inch above them. Bring to a boil and let them boil for 20 min. Then take them out and let them cool down a bit. Then they will seal themselves. It might take 24 hours.

I can't wait to make a pie with them. MMMM :)
