Easy Mini Chicken and Waffles

I've never had chicken and waffles until today.  They are amazing.  :)

My older sister, Natalie pinned this pin yesterday and I knew right then that I was going to make them.

For dinner tonight, I made them.

*Fried Chicken (store bought)

*Eggo Mini Waffles

*Syrup

Heat up the chicken in the microwave if it's cold, and toast up your mini waffles in the toaster.  Take your chicken and tear off the meaty parts then place it onto your mini waffle.  Drizzle with syrup and then heat in the microwave for 30 to 45 seconds so everything is nice and hot.

There you go......Easy Mini Chicken and Waffles.  YUM!  :)

Re-Grow your own Avocado Pit

My husband, Nate ran a 10k this morning beating his time from last year.  YEY  His time this year was 59:15!  He decided for his lunch he would make a nice big sandwich which he named 'The Monument' after the race.  So clever!  One of the items Nate had on his sandwich was avocado.  Nate showed me how to open an avocado and how to get the pit out.  He took the pit and was about to throw it away and I shrieked "WAIT".  He looked at me like I was crazy and I smiled and said "I wonder if you can plant the pit".  He laughed and said "maybe".  

I of course, went right to Pinterest and found the blog 'The Hungry Mouse'.  And what do you know, you can totally grow the pit.  AWESOMESAUCE!  It looks like it could take up to about 7 years until you actually get any fruit but hey why not give it a try anyway.

 In 2020, Nate will come home from running the 10k, go make his sandwich, 'The Monument' and then can pull a fresh, ripe avocado right from our tree that we planted 7 years ago.  hahahahaha  :)

You will need:

Avocado pit (scrubbed clean)

custard cup

4 toothpicks

Push the toothpicks in the pit, evenly around and then set it in the bowl.  I had Nate do the toothpicks for me.  He was excited to help.  :)  Make sure the tip of the pit is pointed up.  Fill with water to cover half of the pit.  Change the water out every day and let the pit regrow.  According to the blog, you should start to see growth within 3 to 6 weeks.  :) 

Indoor Garden Update: Day 40

My Indoor Container Garden is doing really well.  Everything is still growing.  I did some re-potting today and rearranged the containers.

I'm happy to report that my Marigolds have begun sprouting.  It's such a delight to see something you planted from seed, go to sprout.  Today is day 7 of growth.

Here is the tiny rose plant that I'm bringing back to life.  It has some new leaf growth and some buds ready to bloom.

My grape tomatoes- Day 40.

I figured it was time to 'crack' the eggs shells and try to separate the little tomato plants.

I bought these window boxes from target today while I was out running errands.  I love these boxes.  They fit perfectly in the window sill.  The tomatoes look a little stressed after I dug them up, cracked the shells and replanted.  Hopefully, they will be okay.  I gave them water as soon as I put them in the windows and they have already sprung back up.

Here's the potato plants in the middle.  My other pot of grape tomatoes sit in the red pot.  I also replanted them in a window box.

Potato plants are very flimsy.  I tried my best to be careful but one of the plants snapped on me.  :(

I figured I would go ahead and start a few squash and zucchini seeds.  Why not right?

When I started rearranging the garden, I pulled out some old re-writable markers I had and wrote on them so I could label the pots.  I didn't want to forget what was in what pot.  I want to DIY some cuter ones.  I've found lots of cute ideas on Pinterest.  Now I've just got to make some time and get my artistic juices flowing.

Here's my carrots.  Day 7.  So far, no sprouting at least from what I can tell.  

Here's my grape tomatoes in the window box with a marker.

It's a beautiful day outside.  70's with a nice little breeze.  I walked around the backyard and saw these pretty blooms on one of the trees.

                                      

I also checked the bluebird houses.  I have two in the backyard on my fence, each directly across from one another.  I checked both boxes last weekend and there wasn't any eggs.  Today, lo and behold there's FIVE bluebird eggs in one of the boxes while the other one sits with just a nest.  I was extremely happy to see the eggs.  :)

Oh......right now my living room smells like the Lowe's Garden Center.  hahahahahaha  :)  MMMMMMMMMMMMMM.........Fresh DIRT!  :)

Indoor Garden update

I went for a Super Target run this morning to get a few items.  While there I wandered over towards the gardening section.  I first passed through the leftover Easter candy and I had to stop and look.  Everything was 50% off!!!  BARGAINS!!!  Yes, please!  :)  I picked up a couple of goodies then found the gardening stuff.  I was going to go to Lowe's, but figured since I was already at Target, I would save myself some time and just get what I wanted from there.  I can't wait till the gardening stuff goes on clearance.  I got some good deals on containers last year at Target.

Once I got home I started re-potting and then setting up my new seeds for growth.

I got 6 plastic pots, a seed packet of big boy tomatoes, a seed packet of marigolds and a gnome.  :)

This is my shed.  I have my little gardening prepping area all set up.

A couple weeks ago, when I got fresh container soil, I put some in a container so it would be easier to fill my pots when I needed it.

Here's my new gnome.  Check out those purple pants!!!!  :)

I picked up my 'rotting' zombie gnome and his stand fell right off.  :(  

I set the zombie gnome in a new place against the tree so he wouldn't fall over and I put the newbie gnome in the middle of the group.

I got a pack of carrot seeds last month and I saw a cute idea on how to plant them.  I took an empty soda bottle and cleaned it out real good.  Then I carefully cut the bottle in half with a sharp knife.  I then poked holes in the bottom of the bottle for drainage.

I filled the soda bottle with some container soil, sprinkled some carrot seeds and then covered with more soil.  The orange at the bottom is from a lid from a pint of sorbet, that I cleaned and I'm using that as a 'plate' to collect drainage.

I decided to start some big boy tomatoes using the egg crate that I used for my grape tomatoes.  I put 2 seeds in each one.

My potatoes have been doing spectacular.  I have 4 potato plants.  Today, marks day 33.

I re-potted all 4 potato plants into a larger container.  I covered most of the plant with container soil.

I felt my grape tomatoes also needed more room, so I decided to re-pot them as well.  Day 33 for them too.

I carefully took the grape tomato plants out of the soil.  They are still in the egg shells that I planted them in.

I pulled all of them out and gently placed them on a drainage plate while I got the bigger pots ready.

I am using my huge containers from my patio garden last year.  They are now much more spread out and are very healthy plants.  I have 15 total!  :)  Once they get bigger I am probably going to crack the eggs shells and separate the plants.

Next up, I planted some marigolds.  Marigolds are good flowers to plant with tomatoes.

Finally, I brought everything inside to the window and set it all up and gave everyone some water to drink.

Oh, my onion I tried growing did not grow.  I watered it everyday and it got lots of sunshine.  I think I didn't cut enough of the onion scrap off.  I'm going to try again.

Saving a Rose Plant

At work this morning I saw a little rose bush sitting on a table with a small note that said "Please take and give me lots of sunshine, fresh soil and water".  I took it and decided I would try my green thumb at it and see if I could help it.  Maybe it really just needs some tender loving care.  :)

I rep-potted the rose plant with some fresh soil and  put it in a sturdier pot then gave it plenty of fresh water to drink.  I also took off the dead parts off of the rose plant.  It's hard to tell in the picture but there is some new buds forming so hopefully I can save this rose plant.

I brought the rose plant in and set it down in my indoor garden area.  I think it fits in nicely with the other plants.  :)

Indoor Garden Update

An update on my indoor garden.  :)

The grape tomatoes are doing great.  They are on day 26.  Still lots of growth.

The other grape tomatoes are doing much better than this pot.

My celery is on day 25 of growth.  It's very healthy and has beautiful green leaves.

My potatoes are on day 26.  I only have 4 potato plants.  I did have 5.  When I re-potted one of the potato plants the stem broke and it killed the growth so I put it in my compost pile.  I'm going to need to re-pot these potato plants soon because they are growing very fast.

Growing....

I decided to keep my hydrangea here at the house instead of at work.  Harley has gotten to the flowers two times now.  This morning he decided to take his rage out on the flower plant and knocked it down, chewed on some of the leaves and ate some petals.  I found the petals he ate which he puked up later.  :|  BAD KITTY!!!  I've moved the flowers so they are not within his reach.

When I came back from the shed this afternoon, I noticed some ladybugs on the steps of the deck.  I then lifted the grassy area next to them and there were a bunch of ladybugs walking about.  I found about 10 total.  That means good luck 10x for me.  :)

Two of which were mating.  :)  

Indoor Garden Update/ Replanting

It's about day 20 of my indoor gardening.  I made my way over to Lowe's today and picked up 2 big bags of container potting mix.  I also got 2 little plastic pots.  Oh and microwave bulbs because the lights were out.

After I got home I got right to work on the gardening.  I needed to re-plant my little grape tomatoes.  Look how much growth they've had.  Compare to day 1 or day 12.

I put the grape tomato plants, eggshells and all in medium size pots.  Only 3 eggs shells had no growth.  I didn't plant those 3.  Not sure what happened with them.  I left them outside in compost in my shed.  There are 8 in the left pot and 7 in the right pot.

I then looked at my potato.  It's growing pretty good.  Read about Day 15.

I dumped out the plant and soil because I noticed more potatoes were trying to poke up and there was lots of roots.  I replanted them into little pots to give them more room.  I put 2 in each and then the one with the leaves I left by itself.  I was careful with the plant but I might have accidentally broke the stem.  It seemed flimsy to me.  I guess we'll see how it does.  I hope I didn't damage it.  :(

I then grabbed my celery and decided it was time to plant it in soil.  Today is day 19.

I planted the celery in a small pot and made sure the entire base was covered in soil.

I brought everything inside and placed in front of the window.  The potatoes are on the window sill.  You can't really see them in the picture.  I hope everything continues to grow.  :)

I picked up a small hydrangea plant to put at my work desk window.  :)  Right now it's sitting in a window sill.  I might leave it there.  Not sure yet.  :)
